Intentional travel expands far beyond what travelers simply see and do on a trip.
A common misconception in trip planning sounds something like this:
“I help my clients be more intentional with their travel planning. What has always been on their bucket list? What are their individual interests? What does each one want to do that the others don’t, and how can we incorporate that into their trip so everyone gets to see what they want?”
True intentionality means looking deeper than just checking off desired activities on an itinerary.

Finding the “Why” Behind the Journey
Setting intentions for a travel experience stems from the traveler’s “why” – their core motivation for taking the trip.
Coaches and planners can help clients pull these realizations from within by asking powerful questions:
- What is causing this current craving for an escape or getaway?
- How do they want to feel during this trip?
- How do they want to feel when they return home?
- Who is this trip calling them to become?
- What do they want their life to look like upon their return?
Intentional travel centers entirely around the emotional appeal and potential personal outcomes of a journey.
When travelers truly understand why they are traveling and what they are seeking, every subsequent decision clicks into place.

How Intentionality Shapes Travel Decisions
With a clear foundation, decisions become much more focused and meaningful:
- Logistics: Where to go, how long to stay, how to get there, and what climates to explore.
- Experiences: What activities to do, what style of travel to choose, and how far to step out of your comfort zone.
- Connections: Whether to travel solo, join a tour, go with a group, or spend time around other women.
- Mindset: How to show up, what kind of support is needed, and how much to challenge oneself.
Every trip looks different because our motivations, growth edges, and desired outcomes constantly evolve.
The destination changes, too.
We change.
Depending on the season occurring where we go, or the seasons we’re experiencing in our own lives, we’re going to have a different outcome.
Ultimately, when travel is intentional, it transforms into a powerful tool for designing a meaningful life, reaching personal goals, and cultivating the exact feelings we crave.
